ROSALíA: Dior Muse

The House’s newest AMBASSADOR, Rosalía, embodies that spark of elegance, energy and freshness coupled with audacity and delicacy. Her ultra-radiant naturalness – further accentuated by Dior autumn-winter 2024-2025 READY-TO-WEAR creations – comes through spontaneously in this issue of Dior Magazine, just as it does in a new campaign1 dedicated to the iconic Lady Dior. Portrait(s) of an artist who is unique in her prodigious plurality. By Marie Audran.

“Barefoot in the Park”: the title and sheer beauty of the song (an art of grace!) that Rosalía performs as a duet with James Blake could be a self-portrait. A celestial voice that affirms and celebrates her luminous Hispanic identity, and blends divinely with instruments and the spirit of the times. Ultramodern, unclassifiable, a style icon, a multi-talented author, composer, performer and producer who has swept many of the most prestigious awards2 – Rosalía is all that in her essence, a quintessence.

And her encounter, her joyful complicity with Maria Grazia Chiuri, whose inventive power, sense of humour and love of work she admires in equal measure, embodies an infinite curiosity: the constant attraction to otherness, commitment, feminism, free inventiveness and breaking down barriers. The desire to explore eclectic registers – the better to make them her own – from flamenco to reggaeton. Fascinated with creation in all its various forms, Rosalía confided to Maria Grazia Chiuri, in a conversation published in Interview magazine, that she saw in her “a wonderfully strong woman who fights for her vision”. The same might be said of the 31-year-old Catalan artist from the Province of Barcelona, the new ambassador for Dior women’s collections. Her virtuoso singularity – showcased on her third album, Motomami, a chart-topping work of genre-bending Pop – merges marvellously with Dior elegance, as evidenced in this shoot done specially for Dior Magazine and the Dior autumn-winter 2024-2025 ready-to-wear collection.

“For me, fashion is a form of expression, one of the many avenues through which, as an artist, I can communicate and tell the story I want to tell. It’s powerful in that my energy can shift through fashion.”

– Rosalía

MARIE AUDRAN: Please share how you met Maria Grazia Chiuri which values do you have in common?

ROSALÍA: I perfectly remember the day I met Maria Grazia for the first time. She was working so hard to create and assemble the styling of her models for the Dior show, and she seemed so focused that I didn’t dare approach her to say hello because I didn’t want to bother her while she was working. But she welcomed me with a warm smile and invited me to sit on her side. We immediately started talking about the accessories and the collection. I thought she was wonderful. What caught my attention the most was her passion and incredible energy in leading the team, in translating her artistic vision and transforming it into clothes, into bags, into accessories, into everything that can be worn and used to express oneself... And I definitely adore her Italian sense of humour!

MA: What does the Dior heritage symbolize for you?

R: For me, Dior is “una casa de toda la vida”, as we say in Spain. That means it is a House with a precious history, that has endured over time, consistently perpetuating its style and the excellence of its savoir-faire. ¡Admiro la fuerza y la gracia que hay detrás de algo que sobrevive al paso de los años! (I admire the strength and grace behind something that stands the test of time!)

MA: What does becoming a Dior ambassador mean to you?

R: Being an ambassador for a House like Dior is an incredible honour. It’s a joy for me. I think of the remarkable women who have preceded me and those who are currently Dior ambassadors, and I am in awe. It feels like a dream to be part of the House’s illustrious history.

MA: How do you see the role of accessories, of bags such as the Lady Dior — for which you are also the muse,
notably with a dedicated campaign?

R: For me, accessories have always been very important – a look without accessories is not complete! A very simple look made with basic elements can be elevated so easily just with accessories and, of course, a bag – well, what can I tell you… I can tell you that I put practically my whole life in there, so if it’s a beautiful bag on top of that, like the Lady Dior, then that’s el sumum – the best! As you can imagine, it was a fabulous privilege for me to be part of this campaign; I loved doing the photos. Dior clothes and accessories help you feel self-confident, “ready”, and prove that strength and delicacy can go hand in hand.

MA: What did you wish to express in this campaign and shoot for Dior Magazine?

R: The most important thing is to always feel like I’m being true to myself and, in this case, to approach the world of Dior from who I am.

MA: What is your relationship with the world of fashion?

R: Fashion is a form of expression, one of the many avenues through which, as an artist, I can communicate and tell the story I want to tell. It’s powerful in that my energy can shift through fashion: I might have a bad day, but if I see a fashion piece that excites me, the day might change. Or one day I might feel like my energy is low, but if I can figure out an exciting style in the morning, then I might feel charged for the rest of the day.

MA: If you had three words to define Dior elegance, what would they be?

R: Prestige and tradition. Great. Timeless.
