dream garden

Ever since the House of Dior’s earliest days, couture and perfume have been intimately linked. Based on a shared sense of inventiveness, this captivating, poetic dialogue now continues with the new Miss Dior, an exceptional piece by Eva Jospin. An object of desire and many kinds of excellence. By Lucie Alexandre.

Eva Jospin’s caves, forests, fantasy landscapes and sundry other architectures in cardboard both inspire and delight. She rouses the eye, drawing the viewer into an alternate, otherworldly reality somewhere between dream and illusion, like an invitation to escape. Her work, always monumental and striking, offers up a unique contemplation of the world, giving rise to new emotions every time. It’s a trait she shares with Miss Dior, a constantly reinvented olfactory revolution that exalts the senses and the imagination.

Those two languages now echo each other: the artist has created a divinely delicate, eminently exclusive case to clad this iconic fragrance in poetry. The branches, vines, flowers and plants that make up her world are transformed into embroidery, an age-old technique that has always fascinated her and piqued her creative curiosity.

A loyal collaborator of the House, Eva Jospin well knows the Dior style, its irreverent elegance, its singularity and its eternal modernity. In 2021, she designed the set for the Dior autumn-winter 2021-2022 haute couture show by Maria Grazia Chiuri: in a nod to Virginia Woolf’s Une Chambre à Soi (A Room of One’s Own), an enchanting Chambre de Soie (Silk Room) consisting of a 40-metre-long immersive gallery was entirely hand-embroidered by the Chanakya ateliers and the Chanakya School of Craft in Mumbai. Later, Eva Jospin designed a set for La Galerie Dior at 30 Montaigne. As the surrealist Paul Éluard so aptly put it, “there’s no such thing as chance, there are only rendezvous”: it was the Miss Dior room, with an exceptional tapestry that showcases India’s savoir-faire anew.

That work now returns in miniature on the bow of the Miss Dior bottle – “a challenge”, as the artist describes it. The infinitely small becomes a place of wonder, of the irresistibly precious. Vivid pink flowers mingle with tender green foliage, contrasted by the softer hues of branches, a choreography of nature that seems to come to life on transparent organza. Meticulous work by Chanakya’s artisans brings to life a unique tribute to the floral, springlike essence of Miss Dior.

A dream garden also adorns a mini trunk, each panel of which is finely embroidered then assembled thanks to the virtuosity of the Dior ateliers. A prestigious coffret, created in a limited edition of just 150 pieces, to house Miss Dior Parfum, a composition by Francis Kurkdjian in which jasmine blossoms amid a bouquet of fruity, gourmand notes enhanced by refined woods. A piece of rare, absolute beauty.
