As everyone knows, beauty is born of chaos. Because Sauvage is an intensely singular fragrance, its raiment needed to reflect its image: a rare and unexpected piece, the fruit of a time-honoured fusion, created by the hand of virtuoso craftspeople.

The quest commences in the Baccarat ateliers, where the magicians known as master glassmakers know (all) the secrets of crystal: shaping it requires a number of ineluctable steps. Each of those requires ultra-precise, astonishingly delicate workmanship.

First comes gathering, which involves taking a blowpipe – a long, hollow steel rod – and fetching the incandescent, vibrant molten glass, turning it gently and steadily until it forms a ball.

It quickly cools, and the slightest move, however minute, can be enough to shatter it. Leaving the fire behind creates a grain, an organized structure. This is the moment when, by manipulating it with wooden tools, the artisan proceeds to the second phase: blowing through the pipe to create a shape. Sauvage’s iconic geometry takes form, as if sprung from Vulcan’s forge, as if animated by the craftsperson who breathes life into it, moulding it until it produces a perfect neck and a rounded base of uniform thickness. With a sharp, decisive stroke, shears snip the neck to the desired length. Once detached, the piece is entirely subjected to the dexterity of the glassmaker’s hands: this is the cold-cutting stage. Holding it in place with tongs, he flattens the base, refining the mass into immaculate, perfectly transparent crystal.

Cutting the cap is a stylistic exercise unto itself, as the glassmaker defines the planes of three fine, crisp bevels, taking care to keep them matte so as to contrast with the brilliance and signature gadrooning of the crystal. Lustrous and polished, a veritable work of art takes shape before its sculptor’s very eyes.

In this pristine state, a final touch awaits: with brushstrokes of absolute meticulousness, it is enhanced with the name Sauvage Elixir, a privilege reserved for palladium, a rare metal more expensive than gold that never oxidizes or tarnishes. Like a subtle echo. A décor of breathtaking elegance, a quintessence poised at the confluence of refinement and discreet opulence.

Such a unique creation called for an extraordinary presentation. Dense, noble wood was selected to house the bottle in a box of solid oak with sculptural, pure lines. A grained envelope contains the certificate of authenticity for the materials and a dedicated number for this object of desire.
