Inspired by the figure of the legendary Amazon, the looks in the Dior spring-summer 2025 women’s ready-to-wear show  by Maria Grazia Chiuri exuded confidence. After a demonstration by SAGG Napoli – her silent strength emphasized by the archer’s dress and poised gestures – models emerged, conveying bold, liberated postures. Worn cross-body and close to the heart, the D-Journey bag stands out as a unique accessory recalling a quiver. A blend of elegance and practicality, it highlights sinuous lines and absolute fluidity achieved through innovative leather-working techniques of remarkable precision.

The creative process begins with a pencil sketch, whose assertive and subtle strokes subtly describe the softness of the object. Though the image is fixed, one glimpses how it falls, its versatility of wear, its irreverence. Then comes the choice of materials that will give the bag its distinctive form. Available in small, medium or large, it is crafted in full-grained leather or adorned with architectural cannage, offered in smooth, crushed and grained leather versions with matte or glossy finishes. This gives the bag a luxurious texture and extraordinary suppleness. Additional variations include two canvas iterations: a timeless design magnified by the emblematic Dior Oblique jacquard, and another with the season’s Dior Graphic lettering, in white typography extrapolated from the House’s archives. The “Dior” logo is elongated into enchanting stripes, a graphic experimentation that is carefully placed to follow the bag’s curves. Such osmosis refers to ultra-contemporary visual culture and reveals the importance of the third step: pattern-making and assembly.

This handbag demands an entirely different construction than a rigid one, which is made using a dedicated mould. The D-Journey involves meticulousness akin to couture, where every step hews to exacting specifications. Thanks to the excellence of savoir-faire in the Dior Studio and Ateliers, artisans bring it to life by emulating a rigorous choreography. Each model is mounted with dexterity; seams are stitched, and the shape materializes in a succession of accomplished manoeuvres. Its incredible lightness stems from the absence of reinforcement and the use of malleable materials, manipulated skilfully to ensure that seams remain invisible, an approach reminiscent of dressmaking. Each detail of craftsmanship is ingeniously thought out for functionality and structure. In a particularly complex operation, the lining is tailored to fit the bag’s exterior like a glove, without adding rigidity to the final result.
