In an extension of the inventive dialogue initiated with his first Défilé for the House in 20181, Kim Jones has thought up a new collaboration with the New York-based artist KAWS. An exclusive capsule reflecting the galvanizing effervescence of Pop.
From childhood, Christian Dior was fascinated by all forms of art and creation, and notably architecture, his original passion. Once grown and settled in Paris, he and a business partner opened one gallery, and then another, and found a chosen family among the most eminent figures of the day – painters, musicians, poets, filmmakers and choreographers among them. Loyal and fruitful friendships blossomed with Salvador Dalí, Jean Cocteau and René Gruau, and of course Christian Bérard, a lifelong companion and one of the most dazzling and inspiring talents of the time. The couturier linked fashion to his enduring love of the arts, infusing his designs with the magic of creative worlds that constantly nurtured and transported his imagination, as he confided with sincerity in his autobiography, Dior by Dior2. |

Blending fantasy and eternal modernity, the House’s symbols are metamorphosed through prisms of the unexpected and irreverence, an audacity cherished by both the Artistic Director and KAWS, whose impertinent advertising posters sealed his reputation. In that spirit, a Pop serpent retraces the contours of the Dior signature, slithering among the four letters of its emblematic name. This beguiling drawing adorns Bermuda shorts in cotton faille, quilted shirts embellished with graphic cannage, enveloping knits magnified by the Dior Oblique motif, bags from the Rider 2.0 line, small leather goods and the B33 sneakers. The hypnotic fairy tale continues as an enchanting reptile cunningly curls into the initials “CD”. |
